Shards of Consciousness

Sunday Reading 17 February 2008

Another Sunday morning. The blizzards that touched the middle part of the midwestern U.S. passed through here last week. They missed us for the most part, and much of the snow we received has melted. While it is here, though, I get to participate in one of my hobbies - checking out the level of insulation in a house.

Look, the snow has already melted off that one.
They did a good job insulating their roof.
Oops, they missed a spot in that house. They really should find out where the leak is and plug it.

I know. Strange hobby. But consider. Decreasing energy usage starts with conservation. Up to 25% of your heating and cooling escapes through your roof. In most homes, upgrading roof insulation is a fairly simple, inexpensive task that pays for itself in just a three or four years.

But now, on to why you're really here.

Alex Shalman is running a series of interviews called the Happiness Project, in which he asks top bloggers about their thoughts on happiness. Check out all the interviews at The Happiness Project.

Words mean things. Liz Strauss helps us understands what we mean when we tack self onto the beginnings of words in Let Your Self Join the Human Race.

Often when we tack self- onto the beginnings of words, we have an implied criticism of ourselves. In Are You Prone to these Six Symptoms of Creative Procrastination? Chrisine Kane talks about ways we sabotage our own creativity with other forms of criticism.

In Hold the Vision-Dare to Dream Karen Lynch gives an example of creative procrastination and a way out. I can't say it any better than she does.

Hold the Vision.

Dare to dream!
