Podcast 12 - The Delusion of Multitasking
Welcome to Episode 12 of the Shards of Consciousness Podcast. This episode is based on an article originally posted in August of 2006 - The Delusion of Multitasking.
Most of us have heard the phrase jack of all trades, master of none. This saying illustrates the problem with multitasking - you're not going to be really good at any of the things you try to do at the same time. The idea that we can do many things well simultaneously is a chimera that I've tried to discourage for a long time. Lately other people are also pointing out this issue, most notable Ben Yoskovitz in Does Multitasking Really Make You More Productive?.
Attention is a necessary prerequisite to excellence in anything. When you scatter it, you impose limits that do not need to be there. Help yourself. Help your life. Monotask, don't multitask. :-)
Thank you for listening to this week's podcast. Think about it. Put it into practice. As always, share with your friends. Let me know how it works for you.
