Business Tips at Successful Blog
March 31st, 2008 by Richard CockrumReaders visit a blog in search of entertainment, knowledge, advice, tips, techniques, and practical information. When we arrive at a site, we have expectations about the type of material we will find. In order to meet these expectations, a blog needs to focus the majority of it’s attention on the type of material we expect.
As many of you know, my wife and I own a movie theatre, my weekend home away from home. I don’t talk about it much here, because the focus of Shards is personal growth and development, Exploring Pathways to Freedom as the tagline says. But the theatre is a large part of my life and occasionally I do have something to say about what I’ve learned in the process of running it.
Another home away from home I have is Liz Strauss’ Successful Blog, especially on Tuesday nights, when she hosts an open comments night. The conversation normally starts with a theme, but can range across the known, and unknown universe. Everyone is invited, so we would love to have you drop in. You’ll be educated, entertained, and develop some wonderful friendships. After a while you start to feel like you’re visiting Cheers, where everyone knows your name.
Last week we began talking about small businesses. Becky McCray, who writes at Small Biz Survival, is writing a series of 100 small business how-to posts. She asked the group for input on the type of help business owners could be looking for. Based on my experience at the theatre, I gave her my ideas.
Liz Strauss was kind enough to allow me to do a guest post at her site expanding on the comments. You can find the post at Nine Things I’ve Learned While Running a Business. If you’re a business owner in addition to your interests in personal growth, click over, read it, and let us know some of the things you’ve learned or would like more information about. Even if you don’t have a business, take a look. You’ll get some idea of some of the things we learn in the process of running and maintaining a business.
