To Sleep Awake
August 4th, 2007 by Richard CockrumOne and one I tread the stairs.
At the head a door is there.
I remove my shoes, socks, and clothes.
The sky is dark. The city glows.
I lay my body on the bed.
Soft the sheets to which I’m led.
My head embraced by feathered down.
I shut my ears against all sound.
I close my eyes, quiet found.
The black of night is all around.
Silence grows as thoughts go gray,
Become the mists where creation plays.
I wake again, ground alight.
The sky above is shining bright.
No sun in view, but light around.
Within, without, I find it’s ground.
I awake as I lay me down.
