Podcast 28 - Patience and Expectations

August 16th, 2007 by Richard Cockrum

Patience - the capacity of enduring hardship or inconvenience without complaint.

In patience possess ye your soul.

Most of us live in a web of woulda, shoulda, couldas. We compare what we are experiencing to what we want to experience, and find the reality lacking. Finding it lacking, we get tense, frustrated and angry. We create a negative emotional state within ourselves and quite frequently make the situation we are experiencing worse.

Patience isn’t as passive as the dictionary definition makes it seem. Rather, it is the result of an active acceptance of what is. Until we begin to learn to see clearly what is around us without comparing them with the way we think things should be in a negative way, we remain unconscious, reactive machines. We can not experience the freedom that is already ours.

This episode of the Shard of Consciousness podcast is based on an article I wrote in October, 2006: Learn to Deal - Patience and Expectations.
