Sunday Reading - 22 July 2007

July 22nd, 2007 by Richard Cockrum

I’m way behind in my reading. The daughter of a friend is getting married, so Lady Glynis has been doing her flowers for her this week and helping with the catering. The house has been occupied, and happily so. Ive been crocheting. And finally, I’ll admit it. I’m a Harry Potter Junky. Lady Glynis preordered the book months ago. It arrived yesterday (Saturday). In anticipation of my turn to read it, I’ve been re-reading the fifth book to see what was left out of the movie. Next week I’ll read the sixth book so I’ll be back up to speed on where it’s at. By then, Lady Glynis will have read the last book three times and I’ll have my shot at it.

So, as I say, I haven’t read much on line this week. Here are some of the things I have managed to catch.

Life isn’t hunky-dory all the time. Some days are just bad. Some days can tempt us into attitudes we hoped we had outgrown. But we don’t have to. Listen to Lyman Reed at Creating a Better Life in I’m Not Supposed to Tell You This.

Nneka at The Balanced Life Center was away for a while, but she is back again. Her post, How to Keep your Vibes High is the latest in the High Vibes project. She shares five things she does to live a conscious life.

Tony D. Clarke at Success from the Nest has started a new series on the Hierarchy of the Successfully Self-Employed, a taxonomy based on Maslow’s hierarchy of motivation. I’m looking forward to the rest of it.

Finally, Chris Garrett at Chris Garrett on New Media wants us to send him our flagship content links. Different people define flagship in different ways. To some, it is what they believe is most important. To others, it is what is most popular. Still others think the number of comments or links have a role to play in defining their best work. What do you think? Let Christ know and send him a link to your best.

Finally, remember your granny squares! Have a great week.

Wow, she’s going to read it *three times* before you get to it? You two really are Potter fans!

Thanks for the link love, my friend.

Three may be stretching it, but she’s already read it once and has started on the second time. I expect her to hit three before I get to it.

Yes, we’re definitely fans. The books aren’t great art, but they are well-told stories that hold our interest. Rowling’s rise from an obscure author living as a single mom on welfare to one the most successful women in the world makes it all the more interesting.

Hi Rick, thanks for the link and spreading the word that I’m back. Are you guys going to do a showing at the theatre? At the boutique theatre in town, they do Little Shop of Horrors (I think once a month) at midnight and it’s a huge event. Do you do anything similar to that?

  5. Rick Cockrum Says:

    Hi Nneka,

Every weekend we’ve got a show. We haven’t been able to get the new Harry Potter movie yet. Each Monday Lady Glynis calls. Each Monday they say not this week. Soon, though.

I never really thought about Little Shop of Horrors. People don’t talk about it much here. Is that the new one, or the original with Jack Nicholson?

We’ve looked into Rocky Horror, but we don’t have the room for a proper stage show and there are few prints available. Even without the room, after we get digital equipment, which we hope to do by the end of next year, we may still do it. I also want to look into another cult classic - The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. If you’ve never seen it, I highly recommend renting it.
