A Shadow Play

Shadows of luck, shadows of life,
Shades that wend through sin and strife
Shades of thoughts that came to be
Shades of truth that live in thee.

Shades of love that guide my step
Shades of hate in secret kept
Shades of guilt from yesterday
Shades of games we silent play.

A shadow play is what I’ve lived
A shadow play is what it’s been
I choose the shades that cloak my heart
I choose the shades that form my part.

A mirror gilt in shadows lies
Painting shadows on my life.
In the mirror of a child’s eye
I see the shades of how I’ll die.
