The Ritual of the Cross

June 2nd, 2007 by Richard Cockrum

Make of life a ritual
A work to justify the cross
That you bear with hidden cost
Through the light of each day’s sun.

Take your nights and waste them not.
Let the acts you do there
Give a meaning to the cares
That fill your eyes with shattered light.

Take the days and every night
That you live upon the cross
And let no others see the cost
Of the life you’re leading.

Until you climb down from the cross
Waking to the time you lost
While laughter floated in the breeze.
