Sunday Reading - 13 May 2007

A beautiful Sunday morning in my corner of the world. The sun is shining, as it has for over a week. One day last week rain was predicted. I watched the clouds gather through the day. I shut my car windows and closed house windows. I watched the clouds disappear, taking the moisture with them. Lady Glynis got out the hose to water the garden.

Maybe this week.

SOBCon 07 has come and gone. Easton Ellsworth, Jesse Peterson (here, here, here, here, here, here, and here), and Jason Alba (here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, and here - you were a busy man, Jason) have given us a look into the happenings of the day. If you weren't able to attend, you'll find some great notes on the sessions.

David Armano of Logic+Emotion has posted the slideshow and given some notes from his presentation at SOBCon in Blogs Are Free Samples of Your Brand.

Chris Cree is finally starting to relax after Decompressing - SOBCon07 is In The Can.

Christine Kane, singer, songwriter, and premier blog concert artist, has met her first druid. She tells us about it in SOBCon07, or My First Blog Conference, or "Dude, There's a Druid in the Lobby."

Other's who have posted their impressions and what they have learned include Hanna Steen in Return from SOBCon, Lisa Gates in SOBCon07: Why Hugging is a Feast for the Soul of Your Business, Tony Clark in When the Ninjas Crossed the Street, I Completely Lost My Train of Thought, and SOBCon Master of Ceremonies and one of the proud instigators of the event, Terry Starbucker in the SOBCon07 Recap: This Was Your Show.......

Sean Rox (here, here, here, and here) and Timothy Johnson (here and here) have shown us some of the faces behind and on the scene at SOBCon. Phil Gerbyshak, the Relationship Geek has written about the 5 things he learned at SOBCon, and he and Vernon Lun, the Idea Dude have posted many images of SOBCon07 at Flickr here (Phil) and here (Vernon). I love Vernon's description of SOBCon as a blogger conference, not a blogging conference. Jonathan Phillips at SmartWealthyRich.com has posted a slide show in SOBCon07 - Pictures and Link Love, along with links to all the sponsors, speakers, and attendees.

In When Saying "Thank You" Can Never Be Enough Liz Strauss lets all who planned, worked, and participated in SOBCon, see in words some of what is in her heart. Thank you, Liz.

Thanks to all of you for letting us vicariously attend.

For those of us who couldn't attend SOBCon, Carolyn Manning hosted a virtual conference, Getting It Together, at Thoughts and Philosophies on May 11 - 12. We talked about setting planning and setting priorities (here, here, here, and here), clearing the clutter from your life (here and here), the need to recharge your psychological batteries (here and here), dealing with urgencies (here and here), and dealing with the details(here and here). Take a look at each post. Carolyn, you did a fantastic job setting things up. Thank you, and thank you to everyone who participated. We just have to remember that starting at noon EDT on a Friday may not be the best idea in the world. :-)

If anyone does a search on the word here, this post will be at the top of the results page. ;-)

Have a great week. Happy Mother's Day mom and Lady Glynis! And happy Mother's Day to all you fathers out there. They couldn't have done it without you. :-)

Note: This post has been edited as I find more links. Thank you everyone.

Thanks for the mention and links. I've taken a ton of photos at the SOBCon event as you mentioned and I have a lot more to post, so over the next day or so be sure to check back for more photos from SOBCon 2007.

  2. 1034 Jesse Petersen May 13, 2007 9:28am

Thanks for the link-love. I'll be making some hopefully profound posts on the talks and one-on-one times I had.

  3. 1018 Carolyn Manning May 13, 2007 11:17am

Absolutely no more noon starts Rick; that's a promise. As I've said before, without you moderators, there would have been nothing.

Did you see where Joe Hauckes used Sheila Scarborough's computer to pop in from Chicago to say hello? It's on Chris Owen's hour.

Thank you, Rick. Both for the links today and for being there Fri/Sat.

Carolyn - No. I didn't see that Joe had checked in. I'll be over to check it out.

Rick - thanks for combining all these links in 1 spot. VERY helpful!

I posted a few pictures up at my Flickr account if you're interested: http://www.flickr.com/gp/14131494@N00/34y570

That's terrific, Phil! I'm going to take a look now. I'll be updating the post with what else I can find. I just saw Vernon Lun's Flickr photos (http://www.flickr.com/groups/sobcon07/pool/).

  9. 764 Phil Gerbyshak May 13, 2007 5:42pm

Vernon sure did grab some great shots. I'll have to send him a link to mine too.

    Thanks again Rick!

Hey Rick, you're welcome for the pics.

I just got home a little bit ago... 2 hour delay on the flight because of smoke in the cockpit... that made everyone on the plane feel warm and fuzzy :)

I'm looking forward to interacting with you a lot more Rick and all the other cool cats from SOBCon 2007... but now, I need some sleep...

  11. 958 Klearchos May 14, 2007 12:50am

It was nice meeting you all!!

  12. 960 Rick Cockrum May 14, 2007 1:36am

It was good meeting you, Klearchos. Go well on your Master's degree.

  13. 1059 Easton Ellsworth May 14, 2007 8:58am

Rick, awesome job "here" man. :) Posts like these are so valuable because they tie threads together into a much more useful tapestry. Hope to see you sometime - perhaps at the next SOBCon?

  14. 1057 Rick Cockrum May 14, 2007 9:54am

Thanks Easton. I've also updated it to include other links I've found as I attend virtually. People took some great pictures.

If it's to be, we'll meet. Maybe not at a SOBCon, I have a standing weekend date with a theatre, but sometime.

  15. 1058 SOBCon O7 Update May 14, 2007 10:06am

[...] I’ve found some new links for SOBCon. They’ve been added to the original post - Sunday Reading - 13 May 2007. [...]

  16. 860 Jason Alba May 14, 2007 10:24am

Thanks for the link love - you know I only did it for the love :p J/K - it was an awesome opportunity and I hope that the posts I did will help others remember or those that couldn't be there share in the knowledge. And I tried to meet more people but I think most of them just saw the top of my head :p Maybe next year I'll meet more folks!

  17. 861 Rick Cockrum May 14, 2007 10:35am

You're welcome, Jason. My thanks for putting these notes up. You can be sure I'll be printing them out. People may have only seen the top of your head, but they'll remember your name. :-)

  18. 863 Christine Kane May 14, 2007 11:45am

    Hi Rick,

I was SO hoping I'd meet you at SobCon! I looked around - but then learned that you weren't there. Frownie face. :-( Next time!

  19. 864 Tony D. Clark May 14, 2007 12:13pm

Hey Rick - Sorry you couldn't be there. I would have really liked to meet you in person.

I'm sure we will some day soon...

  20. 963 Rick Cockrum May 14, 2007 5:33pm

    Christine,

Meeting you and so many other people, and hearing you sing live are what I missed most about not attending. (unless I was disguised as an anime fan disguised as a druid - or behind the black mask of a ninja. Nah. I couldn't do that.) You had a great time and its good. :-)

  21. 1148 Rick Cockrum May 14, 2007 5:41pm

    Hi Tony,

Meeting you and others is the thing I missed most about not attending SOBCon. There's an article in there somewhere. I stayed home so people could experience other people's lives through the vicarious experience of film, while I'm here living the conference vicariously through your story and those of others. Thinking about it is leading to some interesting thoughts.

  22. 1147 Jonathan-C. Phillips May 14, 2007 5:42pm

Hi Rick, SOBCon was great, had a blast! :)
It's nice of Jason to blog the whole event, sowe can go over the posts and re-learn stuff from the week-end, that's awesome! And thanx a bunch for mentionning my slideshow, really appreciate it!

Let's take the conversations out of the comment boxes again next year! :)

  23. 1061 Rick Cockrum May 14, 2007 6:03pm

Whew! That was fast! You're welcome for the mention. I really appreciate you putting them up.

I hear 2008 will be in the works. This had to have been some gathering. I've been to several (non-blogger) conferences, and never heard people so psyched on getting it going again.

  24. 1062 Jonathan-C. Phillips May 14, 2007 6:07pm

Bloggers are nicer than "normal" people! That's why! (kidding hehe) seriously, i had a great time, can't wait for next year. :)

  25. 964 Rick Cockrum May 14, 2007 6:13pm

Shhh. My daughter will hear the part about not being normal and say "I told you." :-)

Now if I can just talk everyone into coming mid-week to suit my schedule....
