Podcast 9 - Giving Gratitude

April 5th, 2007 by Richard Cockrum

Welcome to Episode 9 of the Shards of Consciousness Podcast. This episode is based on the article, Giving Gratitude.

This article was originally posted in October of 2006 and references work by several other people including Christine Kane’s article Practicing Gratitude, the Science of Getting Rich by Wallace Wattles, Nneka’s series A Season of Gratitude at The Balanced Life Center, and Steve Johnson’s powerful post on learning to give love at The Fast Lane.

Most of our life much of our behavior is unconsciously driven. We spend little time actually awake, even though our eyes are open and we are walking around interacting with the world around us. Most times we are reacting, rather than acting.

Learning to express gratitude is one way we have to actually wake ourselves up, to become proactive rather than reactive. It requires an ongoing act of attention to what we experience in our lives, a decision to not be driven by the habits we have developed over the years. Through the act of learning to express gratitude we wear away the veil that separates our ego from our selves, and our selves from those around us.

As always, thank you for listening, take away what is useful to you, and share with your friends.

Have a great week!

Outstanding podcast, Rick! I really liked the idea of the veil, and how you said that no matter how thin you make it, it’s still there, and still a barrier between yourself and the world… really touched me.

Excellent points made. Gratitude is the key to open the door to all good things in our lives. Thank you for a great podcast.

Thank you Wanda. If not the key, it is one of the most important.
