Sunday Reading 3/11/2007
March 11th, 2007 by Richard CockrumIt’s Sunday morning where I live. The sun is shining. It’s the warmest day it has been in a month. I, of course, neglected to set my clock forward last night for the beginning of daylight savings time, so I slept in this morning. I hope you have a day to relax and enjoy just being.
This week’s reading begins with Debbie Call. In Wake-up Quote she gives quotes from the I Ching and Eckhart Tolle that give a different slant to my post earlier this week on focusing in the now.
In yoga the heart is often considered to be the seat of the so-called higher emotions such as love and empathy. Meditation on the heart center and what it symbolizes is one of the major ways to develop these emotions in our personalities, and reach beyond the personality to the deeper self from which it springs. Dr. Karen Shue talks about some modern research on the neurology of this in The Heart of Neurofeedback.
Perfectionistic thinking. Most, if not all us, have practiced it, sometimes wallowed in it. Christine Kane has talked about it as all-or-Nothing thinking, where we tell ourselves that if we can’t do something perfectly, don’t do it at all. Never mind you’ve never done it. Never mind that we’re not born experts. Perfectionistic thinking says that if we can’t be great, just don’t be. The consequences are pernicious and limiting. In Train Yourself to Let Go of All-or-Nothing Thinking Christine gives some tips on how to get out of this destructive mindset.
Finally, don’t forget the new edition of the Personal Development Carnival. It’s being hosted by Aaron Potts at Today is that Day. This week’s carnival has two dozen articles on a wide array of posts.
Have a great week!
