A Little SOAP Never Hurt Anyone

March 16th, 2007 by Richard Cockrum

This month Easton Ellsworth at Business Blogwire has encouraged us to SOAP one another. No, not Ivory. Not Lifeboy. Not even Irish Spring. SOAP is the Scratch One Another Program - bloggers helping bloggers improve each other’s blogs through the free exchange of blogging tips. (Say that three times fast. :-) )

I see a terrific learning experience. We get the chance to learn how other people see our blogs. And we get the chance to learn to look objectively at how blogs are put together for the best effect.

All you have to do is fill out a short questionnaire telling who you are and what aspects of your blog you want to improve. Easton assigns someone for you to SOAP, and someone to SOAP you. He wants to get 100 bloggers signed up this month. So far the crew is up to 65 intrepid souls. Could you use a little SOAP? I’m in!

Thanks for the reminder, Rick. I signed up (while it was fresh in my mind) before commenting here.

  2. Rick Cockrum Says:

Good deal, Carolyn. That’s my way of life. Do it now if I can. If I can’t, write it down. If I don’t write it down, it didn’t happen and I won’t remember it. :-)

  3. Carolyn Manning Says:

Oh, I like that, Rick. “it didn’t happen and I won’t remember it” :)

  4. Rick Cockrum Says:

    Carolyn,

That’s what happens when you have a memory like a steel sieve.

  5. Renée Says:

Me too! I knew about this a while back but didn’t sign up, fear I might not have the time to soap others.

But what the heck, no soap no lather! Your post just got me to sign up 5 minutes ago!!! Thanks Rick!

BTW, you did get my email, didn’t you? ;-)

  6. Rick Cockrum Says:

    Renee,

My fear was that I may not have anything useful to say, but the person I was hooked up to says he found some of my suggestions helpful. It does take some time, but the gains far outweigh the costs in time. I’m eagerly awaiting my SOAPing.

And yes, I got your email. All I can say is I’ve been neglectful. :-(

  7. Renée Says:

Oh, you mean you’ve already soap’ed someone? I thought Easton would consolidate all the soap’ers at the end of the month and then assign. Wow, that’s fast!

No worries about that email, just wanna know you did receive! ;-)

  8. Rick Cockrum Says:

Easton’s evidently pairing people up as they come in. I’ve soaped someone, and he wrote back saying he would be soaping me. I’ll be posting about it after we’re done.

  9. I’ve Been SOAPed and Re-covered Says:

[…] In A Little SOAP Never Hurt Anyone I talked about SOAP (Scratch One Another Program), a program Easton Ellsworth of Business Blogwire started. Last week I was SOAPed by Michael Perlman of Educated. In the comments to that article I had said I thought we were being paired up and giving mutual advise. That obviously isn’t the case, since I didn’t SOAP Michael. […]
