The River
November 19th, 2006 by Richard CockrumYour low voice murmers
With dreams of yesterday,
Calling us to come and see
The way that we must stay.
You flow within the banks of earth
In your easy, peaceful way,
Never stopping, never looking,
Never going astray.
The winds of change come slowly.
They softly call your name.
Waiting for a thousand years,
They know you’ll still remain.
Darkness falls around us
As your waters fade from view,
But still the whisper of your voice
Calls us to stay with you.

The river is wise.

One of my favorite places when I was young was the river on the sportsman’s club my dad belonged to. It’s still one of my centering images.

The river to me symbolizes the power of the unconsciousness of the Earth and by relation to ourselves. A river feels different than a pond, a brook or a lake. The river and the ocean are more closely related through the power of choatic force.
Thank you for sharing that poetry.

Thank you for reading and commenting, Danielle.
River/ocean does feel different than pond/brook/lake. I never thought about it before. There is much more power there.
