Some Days Change Your Life
September 11th, 2006 by Richard CockrumThe day John F. Kennedy was assassinated.
The day you start school.
The day you join in the military.
The day you are married.
The day your child is born.

Some days change your life.
Some people die murdering their neighbor.
Some people die protecting a stranger.
Some people live a life of hope and love.
Some people live a life of pain.
Choices still remain..
Come home safely.

Rick, it’s really beyond my comprehension on what it’s like to have children in the service. I can only hope along with you that they, and every single other personnel, can make it through this mistake.
PS: Your redesign gets a thumbs up from me =)

Sorry it took so long for your comment to get up. Spam Karma ate it for some reason.
Thanks for the kudos on the design. They really go to Andreas and Ainslie. It’s one of their themes. I think it’s pretty spiffy.:-) Unfortunately, it looks like crap at 800 x 600.
I worry about my sons. One is in Iraq. He previously spent six months in Pakistan helping with the earthquake relief. I am proud of them, too. Have you ever read any Robert Heinlein. In Starship Troopers he talks a lot about politics. At one point he has one of the characters say “…every voter and every officeholder is a man who has demonstrated through voluntary and difficult services that he places the welfare of the group ahead of personal advantage.” I don’t know that I would agree with limiting the right to vote to that extent, but anyone who volunteers for the service (or VISTA, or the Peace Corps, or any other such form of service) is showing they have the capacity to put the welfare of others, complete strangers, ahead of their own.
The terrorists don’t grasp this. They are motivated primarily by hate - they are against Israel. They are against Western culture. They are against Muslim sects who don’t think the way they think.
Terrorism is a weapon of the weak. They know they have nothing to give. Shall they give the world Islam? It was already one of the largest, fastest-growing religions in the world. Shall they give the world peace? The news shows the answer to that. Their only hope is to take, and to keep on taking until the West has spent so much money and so many lives to prevent the taking that it folds from the inside. And so they continue their two-bit attacks on women and children and people trying to peacefully pursue their lives.

I can’t say I’ve ever read Robert Heinlein, but of course I agree with the fundamental truth that going to war voluntarily is the ultimate sacrifice of personal security, in aiding others.
For terrorists, per se, I don’t think it’s just wanting to spread Islam, but waging jihad against the West, and ultimately, destroying all the ideals that the West stands for. Do they want world domination? Who knows what they’re thinking when they spread all this mindless violence?
(And sorry for being a downer today Rick V_V)

No worries! You’re not being a downer. I just don’t understand how people can think that way. Power trips never interested my and a beliefs built around hate do no one, least of all the possessor, any good.
