Some Days Things Just Seem To Go Wrong

All of us
Some days things just seem to go wrong. Yesterday I was met with a deafening silence. I had almost no email, not even spam. Traffic at my website was down, then when I got to the theatre that my wife and I own to set up for the movie, the power supply for the sound had gone south. We lost the first show, though I was able to get something working for the late show, and got another power supply installed for today. Some days things just seem to go wrong, but getting upset about it doesn’t help, and can even hurt. If you get upset, you only get the people around you agitated, and that can feedback into your emotional state. Or, if no one is around, you can cause your own feedback, making a bad emotional state worse, and possibly making the physical state of things worse. Getting upset would have hurt no one more than myself.
Some days things just seem to go wrong. But do they really? What actually happened. I didn’t get as much email as usual, the amount I expected. I didn’t get as much traffic as usual, the amount I expected. The power supply didn’t work as I expected. It’s not that things went wrong, but what happened didn’t meet my expectations. When we are operating from an unconscious point of view, our expectations have a strong influence on our emotional state. If our expectations are met, we experience happiness. If they aren’t, we experience disappointment and anger.
Be conscious. Don’t let what you expect control your emotional state. You harm yourself, and keep yourself from acting in a constructive way when things don’t work out as you expect them to. No one is immune to having their expectations unfulfilled. It happens to everyone. If you are operating from an unaware state you will react, and suffer the negative results. If you are self-aware, though, you will see what your expectations are that aren’t being met. You will take one more step towards freedom, as you stop letting what happens around you control your emotional state. You will be proactive, not reactive.
